Heading into his fifth north London derby, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has a good record in the game and is still yet to upset Arsenal fans.

That’s impressive.

The Argentina has been humble since taking over at White Hart Lane, and has praised Arsenal boss Arsène Wenger once again as he prepares to take on the Frenchman on Saturday. It will be Wenger’s 47th game against Spurs, as the boss approaches 20 years at the helm.

“Maybe people like Wenger and Sir Alex Ferguson were special people capable of keeping their jobs,” Pochettino said. “Maybe the rest of us are not too special.

“It’s like Maradona or Messi. It’s difficult for a player of that quality to appear every season, and when we speak about Ferguson and Wenger, perhaps it is not the clubs who are special, but them.”

There are doubt surrounding Wenger’s future at the moment, with Arsenal badly out of form and in need of a boost. Many – maybe more than ever – believe a change of manager would fix problems at the Emirates Stadium, but when Wenger leaves he is likely to be the last of his kind.

“These are questions for owners and presidents and if you look at the last few years, maybe it’s difficult for managers to keep their positions at different clubs. I don’t know if it’s about the ability of the managers, or because football has now changed.”

Football has changed, and so have its fans. Pochettino, meanwhile, is pretty good and I hope he isn’t our opposition in such a huge game for too much longer.
