Arsenal midfielder Mesut Özil was subbed off on Saturday as the Gunners won at Goodison Park but is fit to face England for Germany this weekend.

The Gunners were 2-0 winners at Everton but lost Özil to an ankle injury after John Stones fell quite heavily on the midfielder. The way the 27-year-old’s foot twisted in the ground was a concern but Arsène Wenger immediately dispelled fears that there could be ligament damage.

However, Özil did return to Germany for the latest international break and is set to play for Jogi Löw’s side against England on Saturday. The Three Lions play in Berlin and it had looked like Özil, who didn’t train earlier in the week, would miss out.

“Everything was good, for the weekend I’m fit,” said the midfielder on Thursday after taking part in team training for the first time. He trained individually on Wednesday but is now back and available having escaped a setback.

Arsène Wenger will watch the game with some trepidation, desperate not to lose his chief creator for the final few games of the season. With Germany facing tough games against England and then the Netherlands, let’s hope Özil isn’t pushed to his limit.
