There are rumours floating around that Mesut Özil is a little reluctant to sign a new deal with Arsenal but his focus is firmly on next season and how strong the squad has to be to win the Premier League.

Though this season isn’t over and Özil still believes the Gunners could win the title, the midfielder is already looking ahead to the upcoming campaign.

With Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea all likely to have new managers, a lot of money will be spent. That will be the case all over Europe: Bayern Munich will have a new manager, PSG will have to replace Zlatan Ibrahimović and this is the last transfer window the Madrid clubs will be able to make the most of for a year.

There’s little doubt Arsenal will do more business than last summer, when Petr Čech was the only senior signing made by the club.

“We know that it will not be easy and that we need reinforcements if we want next season to be on top here again,” the Arsenal man said in an interview with Welt am Sonntag while on international duty in Germany.

“It is again interesting to see who invests in who and how much the clubs do during the summer break.”

The Arsenal star has already admitted the work of Pep Guardiola in Manchester City is something he will be watching keenly but he is clearly eager to compete with Guardiola’s side and anyone else who contends for silverware next season.

So, it seems straightforward. Let’s keep Mesut happy and strengthen the squad a bit.
