If ever there was a time to walk away from Arsenal fans and not try to placate them, after losing to Swansea is that time.

Never before have I seen so many Arsenal fans mock what the club and players were going to say about their latest defeat before it was said.

We’ll ‘bounce-back’ because we were ‘unlucky’ and we’ll show our ‘mental strength’ against Tottenham.

Ok.

Shut up.

Misreading the situation spectacularly while speaking to Sky Sports was the captain, Per Mertesacker. No doubt fuelled by adrenaline; the German said that the defeat ‘wasn’t the end of the world.’  Meanwhile, all across the planet, Arsenal fans were losing their minds at what they’d just seen.

“We tried really hard,” Mertesacker said.

“The effort was there. We played quite well but always missed the last pass and hit the post a couple of times, but it’s not the end of the world.

“We wanted a better result than against Manchester United, but it was the small margins that cost us.

“We lost the game on one set piece, and we needed to defend better. You could feel that we were nervous out there at the end of the game.

“We have to recover quickly before Saturday, and that’s the only thing we are thinking of.”

Whether or not the world ended, it felt like it did for some on Wednesday night. This sort of thing has been going on at Arsenal so long that fans are simply sick of the nonsense they are spoon-fed post-defeat.

Don’t tell us you have mental strength, show us.

Don’t say you’ll bounce back, find a way to stop falling on your face in the first place.

Don’t curse bad luck, create your own good.

Don’t feed us the same crap. We’re full-to-bursting with it.
