It’s been a good season out on loan for Spanish midfielder Jon Toral, who still has an Arsenal future to fight for.

A goal on Thursday evening was his seventh strike of the season in his 29th Championship appearance for Birmingham City.

Meanwhile in north London, Jack Wilshere is still injured and Santi Cazorla is out and creeping further into his thirties. Tomas Rosicky, Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini are all set to leave next season, so there will be room in the squad for midfield talent.

Toral is predominantly an attacking midfielder, so having him in place of Rosicky seems an intelligent move. He’s not a player Arsenal would be ready to rely on just yet but that isn’t necessary. An intelligent passer and a good finisher, Toral could add something this squad is currently missing.
