It was a disappointing weekend for Arsenal but, at least, a little more of a mixed bag for our loanees.

Five of our on-loan players played over the weekend, with three starting and two appearing off the bench for four clubs in Serie A, the Championship and League One.

Wojciech Szczesny, Udinese 1-2 AS Roma

The winning streak continues! Szczesny played as Roma won an eighth consecutive Serie A game, consolidating their position in the chase for Champions League qualification.

Goals from Edin Džeko and Alessandro Florenzi gave Roma the lead, and they held on despite a late strike from Bruno Fernandes to go five points clear of Fiorentina in fourth.

Chuba Akpom & Isaac Hayden, Hull City 1-1 MK Dons

After sitting out the FA Cup replay against Arsenal on Tuesday, Akpom and Hayden were both back in Steve Bruce’s squad for the Championship match against MK Dons. Akpom played the full game and Hayden was subbed (having been booked) after 73 minutes, but they couldn’t help Hull to all three points.

Hull haven’t won in three league games now and are losing ground on Burnley, whose impressive winning run has taken them nine points clear at the top of the table. Promotion, however, is still on thanks to Middlesbrough’s stuttering form.

Akpom had five of Hull’s 23 shots, but four were off target and the other was blocked.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Cardiff City 1-0 Ipswich Town

18-year-old midfielder Maitland-Niles was heavily criticised in the week and didn’t start for Ipswich no Saturday, only playing a few minutes off the bench in their one goal loss.

Glen Kamara, Barnsley 0-2 Southend United

Kamara featured for the first time since mid-February to help Phil Brown’s side to an important away win.

The Finnish midfielder played 87 minutes in the middle of the park before being replace by Michael Timlin, who scored the second goal in added time.

The win was Southend’s first in four games and keeps their hopes of reaching the play-offs alive.
