With two years to go on his contract, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s future is a little up in the air.

Struggling to impress at Arsenal and failing to nail down a regular place in the team, it is hard to say the 22-year-old has truly earned the sort of wage increase his agent will surely ask for.

So far this season, only nine of the England international’s 22 Premier League appearances have been from the start of a game. It’s a big change from last season, when he started in 17 of 23 appearances in the league. If anything he’s going backwards and he’s lost Arsène Wenger’s trust.

In that case, it shouldn’t be a surprise that he’s being linked with a move away. Undoubtedly talented, he may start to feel he needs a new start. Arsenal may start to feel like he isn’t worth keeping around.

Manchester City have already been linked with the midfielder but will face competition if they are indeed interested in signing him. According to ESPN FC, Liverpool are watching his contract situation closely. A robust and athletic player, he would fit Jürgen Klopp’s style. There is a lack of natural wide players at Anfield right now, so it would make sense for them to target him.

Clearly talented, there’s very little doubt that Arsenal will want to keep the player and will desperate for him not to play anywhere else in England. But do the club want that enough to make a contract extension happen?

Ox is currently injured, but we could see him again before the end of the season.
