As if the news that Petr Cech wouldn’t feature against Tottenham on Saturday was bad enough, Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Laurent Koscielny will not play either.

The Frenchman was missing from Arsenal’s latest debacle, this time against Swansea at the Emirates after being withdrawn from the squad with a ‘slight’ calf problem.

At the time we wondered if we should be a little more worried than the word ‘slight’ might imply, what with his problems in that area and it seems like we might need to be.

Speaking to the press after the midweek defeat, Wenger admitted that Koscielny would not play at the Lane on Saturday.

“He has a calf problem as well. He will not play on Saturday”, Wenger said.

Joel Campbell, who was one of a very few bright sparks from the game against the Swans, was merely taken off because he was tired so we, at least, don’t have to worry about him.

“Campbell hasn’t played for a while and he started to tire. He played against a very young left back and I thought Welbeck could give him some problems with his runs in behind.

“These kinds of decisions don’t mean that Campbell did badly. I think he did quite well tonight. I also think that there was room on that flank to be very dangerous.”

That worked well, huh?
