Arsenal stars Mohamed Elneny and Alex Iwobi had to share the spoils on Friday evening as Egypt met Nigeria in an African Cup of Nations Qualifier.

A late equaliser from Mohamed Salah earned Egypt a point and kept them top of the group and two points ahead of Nigeria after three games.

Mohamed Elneny and Alex Iwobi have had enormous months for their Arsenal careers but are at opposite ends of the spectrum on the international stage. Playing deep in midfield, Elneny won his 43rd cap for his country and played the full 90 minutes. On the other side, Iwobi came on for the final eight minutes of normal time to win his third cap and make his first competitive appearance for the Super Eagles.

Playing competitively means he can’t now switch allegiances should England come calling.

Iwobi’s next chance to impress for his country will be on Tuesday, when Nigeria travel to Egypt for the return match. He will be hoping to have an impact and send his side top of the group but that won’t be happening if Elneny has anything to do with it.
