Camp Nou is quite the place for your first ever Champions League start but Alex Iwobi lived up to the occasion on Wednesday evening.

Yet to even start a Premier League game in his young career, the winger was thrown to the lions by Arsène Wenger in Europe’s elite competition and he didn’t disappoint.

“It’s something a 19-year-old will always dream of, playing against the best players in the world, the best team in the world,” Iwobi said after the game.

“It was an amazing experience and hopefully I will have more of these chances in the future.”

Hard-working and talented, Iwobi was very good in possession and his more experienced teammates never hesitated to give him the ball. Teeing up Danny Welbeck and Alexis Sánchez he could have had an assist. He also could’ve won a penalty, clipped by Javier Mascherano as he raced into the opposition box in the first half.

The next chance for him to start will be at Everton on Saturday, where a full Premier League debut awaits. In all honesty, it would be deserved and it’s something Alex clearly has his sights set on.

Hopefully we can win and get three points. We’re going to concentrate and try and do our best to finish top.”

After such an impressive performance, Iwobi deserves a chance to continue showing his talent.
