Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach have confirmed that versatile Norweigan Havard Nordtveit will leave the club this summer.

A former Arsenal academy player, Nordtveit actually captained our reserve side but was never given the opportunity to impress for the first team and eventually left for Germany in 2010.

Since then he has become a rounded footballer, capable of playing in the middle of the defence or midfield, but the last season or so has seen him act as little but a squad player at Gladbach and he has decided to leave when his contract expires this summer, as the club confirmed on Sunday.

There have been rumours linking the 25-year-old with a return to Arsenal, but it looks like he will be playing for West Ham United at the Olympic Stadium next season.

If Arsenal weren’t interested in bringing Nordtveit back to north London they should’ve been, good on the ball and calm in defence, the Gladbach man positions himself intelligently and could really add something to the Arsenal squad besides his obvious versatility.

If the club did approach him, I guess West Ham offered more regular football and a more important role, which nobody can begrudge him. Best of luck to the former Gunner, and we will see him next season!
