Olivier Giroud has admitted that there have been ‘difficult periods’ for him recently at Arsenal but being selected for his country is doing him good.

The striker has lost his place in the starting line up to Danny Welbeck who has returned from injury with a massive bang.

Giroud’s form has been faltering this year, with just five goals in 2016 and admitted that this was the reason he’d been dropped from the side.

Now, speaking to the press again in France, he said “In retrospect, I can say that these [international] selections against Denmark, Germany and then one yesterday [Friday], do me good.

“It’s true that there was a little more difficult periods in the club, like now, where there is also less pomp on the collective level. [I think he means less confidence amongst the team]

“But there is more competition – Theo [Walcott] and Danny [Welbeck].

“That’s good, the coach can rely on multiple attackers with different styles.”

Giroud scored his 14th international goal against the Dutch on Friday and will be hoping to be given a chance against Watford at the weekend when the Premier League returns.

It will be hard to displace Danny from the team, however the England man’s ongoing knee problems might do that for him.
