A 3-1 defeat at Camp Nou on Wednesday sent Arsenal out of the Champions League but the season isn’t over yet.

The tie against Barcelona ended 5-1 on aggregate and means Arsenal have gone out of two competitions in the space of just a few days. In the Premier League the Gunners are 11 points behind Leicester City at the top of the table and absolutely must beat Everton on Saturday afternoon to stay in the title race.

Netting his first Arsenal goal on Wednesday, midfielder Mohamed Elneny is hoping the team can still chase domestic glory.

“We’re still up for the league,” the Egyptian said after Wednesday’s defeat. “We need to focus. We still have nine games to go and God willing we can do it.”

The 3-1 loss was a disappointing one but Arsenal played well, keeping the ball fairly well at times and managing to create a number of half-chances in both halves.

The only one of those that was taken was by Elneny, who impressed throughout and even scored his first Arsenal goal. Though it wasn’t enough Arsenal were up against a superb side and gave them a decent game.

“We did what we could today. Sure, we lost, but we tried our best. We were playing against a big team.

“We know it’s a big stadium and a great stadium too but I’m happy with my performance today, but not that happy about the result. I knew it’d be hard, but there is no ‘hard’ in football.”
