In an attempt to rally his teammates for Tuesday’s FA Cup replay, Hull City captain Curtis Davies has called the competition Arsenal’s best chance of winning a trophy this season.

The Gunners have only won two of their last nine Premier League matches, and it’s left them eight points behind Leicester City with nine games to go. However, just four FA Cup wins would see Arsène Wenger’s men retain the trophy once more.

Easier said than done, of course. A win on Tuesday night would leave Arsenal in a quarter-final against Watford this weekend, so Davies believes the Gunners will go all out to beat the Tigers on Tuesday evening.

“Arsenal have been on a bit of a bad run but they will look to the FA Cup as their best chance of winning something because they have had unfortunate games recently,” said the defender, who was crucial in Hull’s 0-0 draw at the Emirates Stadium just over two weeks ago.

He doesn’t seem to think Arsenal have much chance of winning the title, so expects to face a strong side in the fifth round replay.

“You can’t write them off for the league altogether because there are a lot of games still to go but I think they will take the cup very seriously and probably play a strong team now.

“They will want to keep the competition as theirs and give it a good go. I think there will be fewer changes than in the first game for them.”

Arsène Wenger has still hinted that he will make a number of changes, and the Frenchman clearly doesn’t think the title race is over. Though Davies was being diplomatic, he doesn’t appear to think we have much of a chance.

Well, why not both? With Hull rotating their side heavily, Arsenal could afford to rest players and still come away with a victory this weekend. Progressing in the FA Cup will only foster a good atmosphere at London Colney and could just be a catalyst for one last run of form.
