Chris Coleman has thrown doubt on Aaron Ramsey’s return from injury by admitting that he would take a gamble on him for the Euros even if he wasn’t totally fit.

Ramsey has been out since 8th March with a thigh problem that was expected to sideline him for around a month and we’ve heard nothing from Arsenal to suggest that he has suffered a setback.

Coleman, however, doesn’t overly care about Ramsey’s fitness – something he’s demonstrated before when playing him when there really was no need and he knew the midfielder could do with a rest.

“Obviously, if we get the green light and he’s fit for the start of the tournament, it’s a no-brainer – he’s coming,” said Coleman.

“I am hopeful that he’s going to get a couple of games in with Arsenal, but who knows? It could be one of those injuries that is prolonged and he doesn’t make the recovery everyone expects.

“But if there’s even half a chance that he could start the tournament then, yes, he’ll be with us. It’s not quite like the situation Roy (Hodgson) has with Jack Wilshere. Aaron hasn’t been out anywhere near as long as Jack has been.

“So it would not be as big a gamble for us to say: ‘We’re taking Aaron’ even if he’s only fit after the last club game of the season.”

There are a few key sentences in there:

“I am hopeful that he’s going to get a couple of games in with Arsenal” – there are more than a few games left in the season.

“It could be one of those injuries that is prolonged and he doesn’t make the recovery everyone expects” – does he know something we don’t?

“So it would not be as big a gamble for us to say: ‘We’re taking Aaron’ even if he’s only fit after the last club game of the season” – same point as above.

This all certainly raises more questions than it gives answers namely – is Ramsey going to be fit for Watford like we were told and why doesn’t Chris Coleman even care about his player’s fitness and any long-term damage they might cause?

Sure, I understand they want Ramsey with them and Ramsey himself will no doubt be dying to get to play in the Euros.

But at what price?
