Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Čech has been crowned the Czech footballer of the year for a record eighth time.

It was an eventful 2015 for Petr Čech, who won the Premier League with Chelsea before joining the Gunners in the summer and instantly proving his worth. Even at the age of 33, the goalkeeper’s ability is undeniable and his experience invaluable.

The calendar year also saw him become the Czech Republic’s most capped player and journalists, coaches and players from his nation have honoured his performances and achievements by voting him Czech player of the year.

It is the eighth time the goalkeeper has picked up the award, a national record.

Sparta Prague striker David Lafata and Hertha Berlin midfielder Vladimir Darida rounded off the top three but couldn’t pip Čech to the prize.

Currently recovering from injury, the goalkeeper won’t represent his country during the international break but is hoping to return to action for Arsenal when Premier League fixtures resume at the beginning of April.
