A red card on Saturday means Gareth Barry will miss Everton’s home game against Arsenal next weekend.

The Gunners travel to Goodison Park for a 12:45pm kick-off on Saturday afternoon, but Barry won’t be at the base of Everton’s midfield after picking up two yellow cards in their FA Cup quarter-final defeat of Chelsea no Saturday evening.

With Roberto Martinez’ side two goals ahead with just a few minutes to play, Barry was involved in an altercation with Diego Costa which rightly saw the Chelsea striker dismissed.

Moments later, though, Barry (who was already on a booking) fouled Cesc Fabregas and was sent off himself.

The midfielder has played in every single Premier League game for Everton this season, but won’t feature against Arsenal next weekend. The 35-year-old is an important player in the middle of the park, and Arsène Wenger will look to exploit his absence.

Without his trusted midfielder, Martinez will either play Muhamed Besic or use Ross Barkley in a deeper role, possibly even with three at the back rather than four.

It’s certainly a boost for Arsenal ahead of a crucial week, but we’ll hope Everton’s Romelu Lukaku, who scored both goals, isn’t in top form.

The Gunners have an FA Cup quarter-final of their own to focus on now, facing Watford on Sunday and hoping to join Everton and Crystal Palace in the semi-finals.
