As the summer approaches, we are doubtlessly in for months of people linking Arsenal with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Then there will be thousands of angry people when we don’t sign the Gabonese striker. Aubameyang is at one of the biggest clubs in Europe, who are impressing everyone under a new head coach.

Not only is Aubameyang a crucial part of the Borussia Dortmund side, he’s under contract until 2020 and at a club where there is no need to sell players for money.

It was a surprise, then, that Real Madrid were rumoured to have agreed a deal for the striker on Wednesday. According to Express, a transfer in the region of €100m (£77m) would take place in the summer, but Dortmund have swiftly rejected the notion.

“That’s total nonsense! We have neither an offer nor a request present,” said sporting director and club legend Michael Zorc.

Chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke has remained stubborn in his denial that Aubameyang will be sold, as Dortmund look to build a team capable of challenging for the Champions League next season.

Midfielder Ilkay Gündogan looks set to move, probably to Manchester City, and Mats Hummels and Henrikh Mkhitaryan are yet to sign contract extensions. If BVB lose even one of those players they will be even more determined to keep Aubameyang, who is in no rush to leave.

Before you even consider Arsenal may sign the Dortmund striker this summer, just don’t. Even if the club entertained the idea of selling him, Arsenal would not be willing to spend the £77m that a club like Real Madrid would offer.
