Arsene Wenger has shown his support for new Valencia coach, Gary Neville, after a poor start coaching at his new club.

Most recently, the former Manchester United man lost by an embarrassing 7-0 to Barcelona and there’s already talk of Neville being shown the door. However, Wenger believes that the La Liga team needs to stand by their new man and give him a chance to bed in.

“I believe the experience plays a big part when you don’t start well,” Wenger said.

“When you have a difficult start because, first of all, you have no credibility through your history because you haven’t shown you can do it before.

“So it becomes more difficult when you had a bad start. At some stage, if you have a good team, they always find their way. I think Valencia will get out of it.

“Keep faith in what he is doing. He has not lost his knowledge overnight.

“That’s what it is about. But not all our faith depends only on us.”

Wenger knows how important it is as a manager to have the backing of the board. The difference is, he’d already proven himself before going through a trophy drought with Arsenal. In addition, the circumstances at Arsenal were different as the board would have known full-well why we weren’t winning anything and didn’t have the money to spend on new players.

Saying this, this is Neville’s biggest test so far and he does need a chance to find his footing in his new role.
