Arsene Wenger claimed that you can’t fault the Arsenal spirit following our frankly embarrassing 3-2 loss to one of the worst Manchester United teams in years.

This was it. This was supposed to be our big victory after almost a decade of no wins at Old Trafford in the Premier League. It was laid out on a plate for us. Several injuries to United’s key players meant they were essentially putting out their B team and with the experience in our squad, we were clear favourites for a reason.

Arsenal, however, had other plans and put on a performance devoid of passion or creativity. We saw quite a bit of the ball but did nothing with it. Sound familiar?

After the match, Wenger only made the matter worse by saying:

“We played with a lot of intensity, I cannot fault our commitment and spirit and desire.”

Erm…

Although I’m usually pro-Wenger, he has to call a spade a spade and admit that something just isn’t working in the squad right now and it hasn’t for a long time. Let’s forget the title for a minute and acknowledge that something’s got to give because at the moment we’re playing terribly.
