Arsène Wenger has surprised and infuriated some fans with his selection for Sunday’s game against Bournemouth.

The Gunners haven’t won in three games and go to Dean Court in need of points. In order to win them, Wenger has stuck with Mathieu Flamini in midfield and put Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain into the midfield.

“Alex is in good form and I want to take advantage of it, he’s suited to play midfield and winger to give balance in our side. That’s important,” the manager said to Sky Sports. But what about Flamini and Gabriel playing over Francis Coquelin and Per Mertesacker?

“You play the players who are in good form, Coquelin isn’t completely there yet. He’s physically still a bit short.”

Leicester City’s win yesterday leaves Arsenal eight points off the top of the table, but Wenger has insisted that result doesn’t affect out approach this weekend – the game is vital no matter what other clubs do.

“Every game is of course very big no matter what the result was yesterday,” said the boss. “Is the result good or bad for us yesterday I don’t know, what I know is we want to win every single game.

“You must always win in our job.”

Arsenal haven’t won in four Premier League games, failing to score in the last three, and the team badly needs a boost.

“Well confidence is a bit jaded, it’s not like you’ve won five games. We haven’t won, we haven’t scored in the last three so confidence isn’t as high as it should be. You have strong periods and less strong periods, it’s about how you respond.”
