Rising to meet Mesut Özil’s free-kick on Sunday, Danny Welbeck gave Arsenal an incredibly late winner.

It was the fifth minute of stoppage time and the last chance of the match, and the striker made no mistake. A glancing header didn’t only find the far corner and give Arsenal all three points, it was also a landmark late goal for the Gunners.

Arsenal became the first team to reach 100 stoppage time Premier League goals. Of course, injury time has been known as ‘Fergie time’ in the Premier League, with Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United known for their late winners, but the Gunners have scored more goals in added time than any other Premier League club since the league was formed in 1992. Manchester United are actually back in third on 91 injury time goals, two fewer than Chelsea and 18 more than Liverpool.

However, Liverpool’s tally is particularly impressive. The Reds have scored 73 stoppage time goals, and an incredible 27 have been winners.

Danny Welbeck’s goal on Sunday was Arsenal’s 21st stoppage time winner in the Premier League, and our first since the opening day of last season, when Aaron Ramsey struck to seal a win against Crystal Palace.

Is there anything better than such a late goal to win the game?
