You probably don’t know much about Arsenal youngster Donyell Malen who signed for Arsenal in the summer, arriving from Ajax where he’d been coached by Dennis Bergkamp when he was with the u10s.

Now 17, the forward was filmed during halftime of the game against Coventry in the Youth Cup on Monday pulling off the most brilliant first touch that you can see in the video below.

The game was 2-2 after extra time, with Malen scoring in the 106th minute to give Arsenal a lead, only for the Gunners to concede in the 120th.

Jeff Reine-Adelaide hit the post with his penalty while keeper Hugo Keto was the hero with three fantastic saves as Arsenal won 6-7 after penalties.

Speaking to the Arsenal matchday programme back in November, Malen revealed what it was like when he first learned Arsenal were interested in him.

“When I found out Arsenal were interested in me I felt so proud and excited. Arsenal was a club that had always interested me for two main reasons, Dennis Bergkamp and Thierry Henry,” Malen said.

“Dennis was my coach with Ajax when I was in the under- 10s. His time with Arsenal was before I was born and when I was very, very young, but I’ve taken time to watch a lot of his games with Arsenal.

“He’s a very quiet guy but I learnt a lot from him, he taught me a lot about awareness, reading of the game and beating defenders.”

Malen has made seven appearances for the u21s this season, scoring three and assisting one. He has one assist in six UEFA Youth League games this season.

Those figures might not impress you too much until you realise he averages only 20 minutes per game at the minute.
