Wojciech Szczesny spoke to the Poland national team’s YouTube channel recently and admitted that Mesut Ozil has surprised him, in a good way.

The goalkeeper, who’s currently out on loan to Serie A side Roma, admitted that he didn’t think we could get a better midfielder than former Gunner Cesc Fabregas but now he’s been proven wrong.

“Previously, Cesc Fabregas was with us and I could not imagine that you could play better in the middle, but Ozil came and it turns out that you can,” the 25-year-old said.

“When you have great technique, everything on the pitch feels slower and therefore you can react faster.

“You do not have time to worry about what is happening with the ball. Just take it, run, head up and assess the situation. It is true that he is something of a genius.”

Ozil is having a fantastic season so far and it’s painful to try to imagine where we would be if it wasn’t for him and his 16 league assists. Meanwhile, Cesc isn’t having the best season at Chelsea. Although things have looked up for him since being moved to his preferred position by interim manager Guus Hiddink, it’s all a little too late for the Blues and it’s unlikely they’ll make top four this season.

On another note, it’s good that Woj is still keeping up with our performances as well as results. In recent months he’s appeared really disconnected with Arsenal football club but this shows that he hasn’t completely unattached himself from north London.
