With the Chilean forward back from injury and obviously undroppable, which player should now sit on the bench in the next game when there is no squad rotation?

There is a case for both Walcott and Campbell to stay in the starting 11. It depends if the manager wants to have a right footed or a left footed player on the right side of the pitch.

The right footed player will or should naturally tend to run alongside the touchline to put a cross in while the left footed would obviously come inside more often.

We know that Walcott does not fit the regular winger model, as he also tends to drift inside and tries to go behind the opposition’s defense with his pace. This also allows for Bellerin to make his usual rampaging forwards run and overlap at will.

With Campbell, we get the crossing ability, as well the excellent reverse through ball that we have seen time and time again, since he has become a regular in the side. So on the attacking side, it is difficult to make a decision, as they are quite similar with Walcott a more senior player but also a bit greedy at times, like any forward with a goalscoring mind.

On the defensive side, there is a gap in quality that certainly favours Campbell. He is working a lot harder on his defending than Walcott and seems to have more energy to pressurise the opposition’s full back or winger. He is also less likely to lose the ball in a dangerous area for the team.

The big question is does the manager want a forward to spend a lot of energy defending hard or just doing the basics and concentrate on creating chances and scoring goals?

As far as we know, Arsene Wenger does not seem to make the team work a lot in training on getting the defensive shape right when out of possession, so it is better to have an individual who will try to work for the team rather than one who goes through the motions more or less.

So I think Campbell should play on the wing with Alexis on the opposite side, so that Walcott can concentrate on taking the number nine shirt off Giroud.
