With Wayne Rooney out and Anthony Martial injured during the warm up, Manchester United badly needed a striker to step up on Thursday night.

At just 18, Marcus Rashford was thrown in for his first team debut and scored twice as the Red Devils came from behind to knock FC Midtjylland out of the Europa League.

Watching at home, Arsène Wenger couldn’t help but be impressed by the youngster, who his side will probably now have to face at Old Trafford on Sunday in the Premier League. United have a lot of injuries, but it was only the goalscorer who was a new face to the Arsenal boss.

“I watched him last night, he was quite impressive,”  Wenger admitted. “I know all of their players, Rashford I didn’t know but all the other players I knew.”

However, the inclusion of a different striker won’t rock the boat too much. Manchester United will still play in the same way, so Arsenal’s preparations for the game don’t go out of the window. Likewise, as ever, the boss is more intent on making sure we just play how we have to.

For us it’s quite simple to prepare, I’m convinced the first needed thing is to prepare on our side for a strong performance.”

A strong performance with focus on ourselves doesn’t mean we won’t try to stop the hosts from using their strengths, it just means we can focus no what we do. Sometimes that seems to be misinterpreted from Wenger’s quotes.

With or without Anthony Martial or Marcus Rashford, Arsenal will go about their job in the same way. After all, that’s the best way to ensure victory.
