After a long wait for a trophy, Arsenal finally won the FA Cup in May 2014.

A 2-0 deficit in the early stages of the final was pegged back, with Santi Cazorla and Laurent Koscielny forcing the match into extra-time. There, eventually, Aaron Ramsey scored the goal to bring Arsenal fans a memory to savour.

The opponents that day, Hull City, were left heartbroken. As fate would have it the two sides met in the third round last season and now face each other again in the fifth round on Saturday, with Arsenal still the holders of the competition. As this tie has such strong recent memories, it’s no wonder there’s plenty to relive.

“I’ve seen it a load of times and it will always be with me for the rest of my life,” Aaron Ramsey said of his cup winning goal in an interview with Arsenal Player. “Not every player gets the chance to score a winner in an FA Cup final.”

“I’ve managed to do that, managed to live that and it was an incredible moment in my career which I won’t forget.

“It was just the relief because of what had happened earlier on in the game. We were 2-0 down and then to come back and finally get the winner in extra-time was just a relief.

“I think you could sense that because we hadn’t won anything for a period of time. It [felt amazing] to finally get over the line and win something. The whole stadium just erupted.”

Probably not the whole stadium, Aaron, as there were over 20,000 Hull City supporters at the other end of the pitch. Still, who wouldn’t watch their cup final winning goal over and over again? I certainly would.

Since that final in 2014, Arsenal have been to Wembley four more times, winning on each occasion. Two Community Shield wins bookend two more FA Cup triumphs, in the 2015 semi-final and final.

“We’ve managed to defend the FA Cup and hopefully we can carry on now and win more things, and other things as well.”

The Premier League title is the big aim this season, but what about winning the cup for a third consecutive season? It hasn’t been done since the 19th Century, and once again Hull are the next side standing between Arsenal and history.
