It’s almost time for Arsenal’s game at Old Trafford on Sunday where the Gunners will be favourites for the first time in the Premier League era.

With United suffering from so many injuries, how are they likely to line up?

That’s a hard question for a Gooner to answer but I’m going to give it my best shot. You can see our predicted Arsenal XI here.

David de Gea, Chris Smalling and Anthony Martial are all doubtful but if I had to guess, based on what I’ve read this week, both Smalling and de Gea will start while Martial will miss out with his hamstring strain.

Louis van Gaal has already admitted that he won’t be starting Thursday’s two-goal hero, Marcus Rashford, so who does he play up front? Perhaps it will be Martial, with the United boss saying on Saturday about the injury “I don’t know because it has happened before the match.

“I’ve talked with him. I have talked with the physiotherapist that already had control of him. I cannot say, but it is not as heavy as everybody thinks, but you never know.”

With so many defenders out, who does he turn to at the back?

And what of the midfield with no Schweinsteiger or Fellaini?

Here’s what we’ve come up:

Possible XI: De Gea; Varela, Smalling, Blind, Rojo; Schneiderlin, Herrera; Lingard, Mata, Memphis; Martial/someone we’ve never heard of.

Honestly, unless Martial makes it or LvG is lying over Rashford, I’ve no clue who they are going to play up front.

Maybe they won’t play a forward and go with a false nine. Even then, the number of players they have out injured makes it practically impossible to guess what United will do with that final slot
