In news which won’t come as a surprise and is unlikely to upset many Arsenal fans, David Ospina reportedly wants to leave the club.

The Colombian goalkeeper hasn’t made a Premier League appearance this season and has been dropped from Champions League games since a howler against Olympiacos, and is now ready to leave London according to London Evening Standard.

After signing Petr Čech in the summer it should have been clear that Ospina would not be number one, but the 27-year-old stayed and looked to fight for his place. His chances were given to him in the Champions League and he has also featured in the League Cup and FA Cup wins over Tottenham and Burnley, but his playing time has been limited. He ruined his own chances of European football, so has little to complain about.

Expected to start again this weekend against Hull City, it is likely to be one of Ospina’s last Arsenal appearances, despite a run in the team last season which saw him become first choice. Clearly he felt he warranted more of a chance, but there was no way Arsenal would let him play ahead of Čech.

The news won’t be disappointing for too many fans but will leave the Gunners in search of a new goalkeeper, with the future of Wojciech Szczesny still undecided. The Pole is on loan at AS Roma and Arsenal aren’t expected to sell him in the summer, but will he be happy to play sporadically as Čech keeps his place?

Hopefully he will, as Szczesny is a very talented goalkeeper and, already 33, Čech won’t be around forever.
