Little needs to be said about Arsenal’s transfer window activity, because little has happened.

Monday is deadline day, but don’t expect the Gunners to do any business, except maybe loaning out Serge Gnabry.

But what about deadline day signings – and there have been plenty of them – since we moved to the Emirates Stadium?

William Gallas and Denilson, 2006

Part of the deal which saw Ashley Cole sign for Chelsea, Gallas went on to become Arsenal captain, which is odd looking back. An experienced player and a very good defender, he was a divisive figure but overall a guy who served us very well.

The Denilson transfer went completely under the radar with the Gallas/Cole story the big news. A tidy Brazilian midfielder who Arsène Wenger trusted greatly, it just didn’t work out and he fell out of favour and returned to Brazil.

Andrei Arshavin, 2009

Signed at the end the January window but confirmed on 3rd February, Arshavin was an enigma. Arsenal were struggling for goals when he arrived but that soon ended. He netted 31 times for Arsenal, and his four in one game at Anfield will live long in the memory.

In all honesty, he arrived too late. Considering his age and what we needed at the time, it was a deal I’d still do again.

Mikel Arteta and Per Mertesacker, 2011

Two guys who are still with us, and I can state enough how important they’ve been. We have struggled badly a lot in the recent past – namely 2011/12 and 2012/13 – and these guys saw us through it. Two of the best signings Arsène has ever made.

Yossi Benayoun, Andre Santos, Ju-Young Park, 2011

Unfortunately, three more signings that very same day were a little less impressive. Benayoun was important to add balance to our game, a valuable squad member.

Andre Santos was just bad. Bad at defending, bad at defending, bad at not swapping shirts with Robin van Persie at half-time. He did, however, score a couple of vital goals.

We also signed Park. Yep. That happened.

Nacho Monreal, 2013

Now the best left-back in the Premier League, a deal for Monreal was planned for the following summer but rushed through on deadline day in January 2013. Even 12 months ago the jury would’ve been out for many fans, but now there’s no doubt that he is a fantastic player.

A new contract signed recently was more than deserved.

Mesut Özil, 2013

Turn to September, and Arsène Wenger smugly told the media he could have a nice surprise for the fans after beating Spurs at home.

The boss wasn’t kidding, and he delivered one of the best players in the world.

Danny Welbeck, 2014

Manchester-born striker Danny Welbeck, contracted to Manchester United, something of a fan favourite at Old Trafford surely wouldn’t sign for Arsenal?

Well, he did. Danny was a great signing but has unfortunately been out for almost a year. Hopefully he’ll return soon but, before then, we’ll always have his winner against his old club from last season’s FA Cup quarter-final.
