Olivier Giroud isn’t just about scoring goals.

The frontman, who has been underrated since he arrived at the club (I’m being polite here), has always had to fight against the narrative that he’s too slow and not very good.

It’s true that he is indeed slow, but that is perhaps the only criticism that can be levelled at him in good faith, and even then, he’s quicker over short distances than many realise (ask the number of keepers he’s closed down how they feel about him).

But what he brings to the team is second to none.

His ability to hold up the ball, flick it around the corner with the deftest of touches as well as his defensive contribution and work rate are all massive pluses in his ‘who does what Giroud does, better?’ competition.

So it’s no surprise to learn that the aspects of his game that are his strongest are the ones Giroud enjoys most as he revealed recently in an interview. As for the other stuff? Well, he wants to improve that too.

“Consistency is my target – always getting better and better,” Giroud told Arsenal magazine.

“I know what I can do, I’m pleased with what I have achieved so far but I really want to carry on and I’m sure I can still improve myself.

“I try to work on it every day to help the team to reach our aims and to win this league.

“I can improve my heading a lot, and I’m sure I will. It’s nice to score a lot of headers though because I think that means I’m at the right place at the right time often, and even more it means that I am getting good crosses.

“But I always try to help the team hold up the ball up front. That’s part of my job and it’s what I like to do. I think I’m doing quite well in that part of my job.”

This season, Giroud has scored 12 goals in the Premier League, five of which have come via his head (41.7%), six from his left foot and the remaining one from his right.

In the Champions League he has five goals in five appearances, two of which were headed and three from his left boot.
