Mathieu Debuchy is playing a dangerous game if he does want to ever return to Arsenal.

The right-back, who completed a loan move to Ligue 1 club Bordeaux on the final day of the transfer window, has spoken about not getting enough playing time at Arsenal, as well as Manchester United’s interest.

Speaking to Canal+, the Frenchman said, “Yes, I’m a little bit annoyed by him. It’s his choice [not to give him playing time]. I came back well this summer, I had a good preseason.

“At the end of the transfer window they came in. They contacted my agents. I was disappointed, obviously. If I had the chance to go to Manchester United it would have been magnificent.

“Unfortunately it wasn’t the case. I discussed it with the coach too, who said that obviously he couldn’t help out a rival.”

Although I understand Debuchy’s frustration at not being able to play, his choice of wording could definitely have been better and he has to remember he’s still technically an Arsenal player. After being struck by injuries, he just wasn’t nearly as consistent as Hector Bellerin, who took his place in the starting lineup, and he needs to recognise that.

Also, he can’t exactly blame Wenger for not wanting to loan him to a rival.

Perhaps his comments mean that he has no intention of returning to north London, which wouldn’t exactly be a catastrophe, but burning bridges this early on in his loan spell is pretty foolish in my opinion.
