With Arsenal interested in young Leicester City left-back Ben Chilwell, there are now reports that other clubs will make bids for him.

The Gunners had an approach rejected by Leicester in the summer but, with 18 months left on his current contract, Chilwell’s future will have to be sorted out soon. The Foxes have been negotiating a new deal with him but may find offers from bigger clubs hard to fend off.

Liverpool and Spurs have also been linked with the defender, but there are now claims that Chelsea will table an £8m bid to try and clinch his signature before the transfer window closes on Monday. Arsenal had previously been rumoured to make an offer of around £5m, which wouldn’t be enough to sign him this month.

Interest in the player seems genuine as far as Arsenal are concerned, but there’s simply no way Leicester will sell him as they are currently top of the Premier League. They must, by now, be aiming to win the league and will need everyone to stay put if that is to happen. Even more to the point, they must be confident of their chances of convincing Chilwell to extend his stay at the club if they are in the Champions League next season.

The defender, who spent some time on loan at Huddersfield Town earlier on this season, has a big choice to make but he won’t make it in the next 24 hours. His future probably doesn’t lie with Leicester City long-term, and Arsenal clearly want him but will face competition in the summer.

On Monday, though? No deal is happening.
