Calum Chambers’ confidence appears to be on the up after scoring in our 2-1 win over Burnley in the FA Cup.

His goal was the first of the match and although the Championship side came back to equalise, we managed to go ahead again in the second half through Alexis and progress in order to face Hull City again in the next round.

Speaking ahead of our match with Chambers’ former club, Southampton, the defender spoke about his desire to get more first team football and how he’s training as hard as he can to get it.

“I want to be in the first team now,” he said.

“I’m training as hard as I can and learning and you take it on the chin. I’m pleased with how things have gone.

“I’m learning in the background. I’m not playing as much and I’m getting on in a few games. I feel like I’m learning in training and watching players in my positions. I have started training in that holding midfield role and played a few games there which was enjoyable.”

It’s good to see that the desire is still there for the 20-year-old and that he’s ambitious. For a while, when he was sat on the bench or injured, I’m sure his motivation wasn’t at its peak but now he got his chance to shine in the FA Cup, I imagine his confidence has sky-rocketed.
