Following our crucial 2-1 win over Leicester City at the Emirates on Sunday, Petr Cech hailed Danny Welbeck’s return to fitness, claiming that the winning goal is his reward.

Cech also played a huge part in our win over the current League leaders but Welbeck has claimed the headlines. After 10 months sidelined through injury, the striker came on to score a winner with the final kick of the game and I’m pretty sure Gooners are still scraping themselves off the ceiling.

Speaking to the media after the match, Cech praised Welbeck’s work ethic during his rehabilitation and admitted he reckons the goal is his reward for his efforts.

“It is a sweet reward for him,” the goalkeeper said.

“He has been working really hard and he had a setback and then he had to have the operation. He had to start all over again and we could see in the last couple of weeks he looked really sharp and confident in training. He had a game for the under-21s which helped him get into the game and I thought today was fantastic for him. He really deserved his goal.”

Although the win is huge and I for one am still watching the match highlights on repeat, it’s important we don’t get too ahead of ourselves. The Foxes are still above us by two points and we have Man City and Spurs still to come. However, what the win will do is instill that belief back into the squad.

We are title contenders, so let’s contend.
