Alexis Sanchez is reportedly holding out on a new contract in order to earn £160,000 a week, which would make him Arsenal’s highest paid player.

According to the Sun, the Chilean wants an increase in wages in order to stay in north London, which, if you believe the Daily Mail, would take him above Mesut Ozil, who makes a reported £140,000 a week.

Although I understand Alexis and his people would be keen on getting a pay rise, I highly doubt we’re being held to ransom, considering how happy the forward appears at Arsenal.

The negotiations are said to have been put on hold until June when the 25-year-old has a better idea of where Arsenal stand both in terms of the Premier League and Europe. However, this contradicts the recent reports that Alexis is actually close to signing a huge new deal worth £51.5m in wages, despite Arsene Wenger saying that we would discuss both Alexis’ and Ozil’s new contracts in May.

Obviously, I’m sure we’ll find out soon. However, I doubt the negotiations are as frosty as the media are making them out to be.
