Arsenal youngster Aaron Eyoma recently signed his first professional deal with the club, and now has his eyes on bigger things.

The teenager, who can play right-back but is more natural on the wing, has been a regular for the Arsenal u18 side this season as well as featuring in four UEFA Youth League games. Unfortunately the Gunners went out of the competition last week, losing to Anderlecht u19s, but there will be more opportunities.

Speaking to the official matchday programme, Eyoma has said that since signing a new deal he has taken confidence from the faith show in him by the club.

“It’s taken that question mark from the back of my mind and has given me the confidence to express myself more in a way that does not look that I am trying too hard to get a contract,” said the youngster. “It’s the highlight of my career so far but I know my new target is to achieve my second contract, and so I have to keep on working as hard as always.

“I gain confidence from the fact that it’s a clear commitment from Arsenal that they feel I have the ability and achieved a standard that they consider is worthy of me continuing my development here.”

Arsenal have recently been putting a lot of effort into the youth setup, and signing more young talent from abroad will only help academy graduates like Eyoma develop even further.

His versatility should serve him well too, as he can cover a number of roles. Who knows, maybe we’ll even see him in the first team squad before long. After all, Héctor Bellerín needs an understudy…
