Granit Xhaka’s father, Ragip Xhaka, has refused to rule out a move to Arsenal during the January transfer window.

The defensive midfielder, who currently plays for Borussia Mönchengladbach is apparently looking for a move away from the Bundesliga and a number of English clubs, including Arsenal, are interested.

“At the moment I prefer not to say too much,” Papa Xhaka said.

“We’ll see what happens. I can say that several big clubs are interested. Everything is possible, we’re not ruling anything out.”

It’s interesting because it appears we’re just days away from announcing the signing of Mohamed Elneny, also a defensive midfielder, and us signing not one but two might be a little odd. Don’t get me wrong, adding strength and depth is a must and we need cover for the injured Coquelin but it seems unlikely that we’d sign more than one player in his position.

Saying this, with Arteta nearing retirement (probably) and Flamini most likely off sooner rather than later, maybe signing a couple of DMs is a sensible move.

As Mr Xhaka said though, there are a few clubs interested in his son so the likelihood of us buying him isn’t that high.
