Arsene Wenger has met with the press at London Colney ahead of the midweek game against Liverpool on Wednesday night.

The boss was asked about the news that broke over the weekend on Spanish radio that claimed that Nacho Monreal was set to sign a new three-year deal at the club and the boss confirmed that a new deal was ‘imminent’ for the defender.

“The regularity of his performances and has improved every since he arrived,” he added about Monreal while admitting he was spoilt for choice at left back with the Spaniard and Kieran Gibbs.

Wenger also explained what the holdup is with the deal for FC Basel’s Mohamed Elneny with work permits and visas being the main sticking point.

“I expect movement. I think we are positive this week it can happen,” Wenger added.

With Egypt falling out of FIFA’s top 50, Elneny was initially declined a work permit but Arsenal were successful with their appeal.
