Jan Vertonghen has picked up medial knee ligament damage and is set to miss Arsenal’s trip to Tottenham on 5th March.
Tottenham currently sit just two points behind Arsenal who dropped to third in the table after their defeat on Sunday and while the North London Derby is still over a month away, every advantage should be appreciated in this crazy season.
The loss of Vertonghen does not only affect the game against us as, clearly, Tottenham will have to do without one of their key players for all the matches in between as well.
Vertonghen could miss between six weeks and three months with the injury that he picked up against Crystal Palace at the weekend but the results of a scan, which are expected later today (Tuesday) should reveal more.
He was seen leaving Selhurst Park on crutches.
Spurs only other option for the centre of defence is the Kevin Wimmer (who?) and the injury might force their hand in the transfer window this month.
Whatever they do, the injury is good news for Arsenal as they look to not only win the title, but make sure that Tottenham don’t end their 55-year wait.
