There are reports flying around that Arsenal have agreed a deal for Andriy Yarmolenko, but the whole story seems a bit odd.

The Ukrainian international has been touted around by the media and his agent for quite some time now, with the player repeating his ambition to test himself in a bigger league. Clubs like Borussia Dortmund and Everton have been linked, as were Arsenal in the summer.

Now, though, we are seeing reports that Arsenal have agreed a deal for the 26-year-old, who can play up front but usually plays out wide for Dynamo Kyiv and Ukraine.

Sport Witness have delved into the rumours that Arsenal have agreed a deal with Dynamo Kyiv to sign the player in the summer, and they seem questionable to say the least. Not only do some reports in Ukraine seem to come from an unnamed Arsenal fan website, but the claims made by Sport.ua say a deal has been agreed before saying how much Dynamo Kyiv would expect to receive for the player. Maybe that’s a semantic issue, but wouldn’t they know how much is being received if a deal was agreed already?

The talented Ukranian is 26 now and in the best years of his career, so it would be the right time for him to finally leave the club and look for bigger things in Europe. However, we really doubt those things are at Arsenal.

The Gunners can afford to spend big, and £25m or so would probably be saved to sign players more proven in Europe’s elite competitions. Either way, no deal really seems to be completed yet.
