Some new information has come to light regarding Mesut Ozil’s Arsenal contract.

According to Football Leaks, the former Real Madrid playmaker actually cost us around £38m, not the initially reported £42.5m, and the La Liga giants even have a buy-back clause should Ozil want to leave us.

Apparently, we paid €44m up front, with an additional €1m for every season Arsenal manage to qualify for the Champions League up to six years (€6m in total).

In addition, Madrid are the first team that will get the call should Mesut want to leave north London. They get 48 hours to make a decision and if they’re not interested, they get 33% of any sell-on fees.

So what does this mean? Well essentially, not only did we actually pay less for the midfielder than was originally reported, which isn’t too important, but it proves that Real Madrid are not keen on any rivals buying their former man.

It also proves how highly they rate him, considering they stand to make a third of whatever we sell him on for.
