Mesut Ozil has hailed Real Madrid’s decision to hire Zinedine Zidane as their new manager after the Spanish giants sacked Rafa Benitez.

Ozil left Real Madrid at the same time Zizou was appointed as an assistant there, but there was some overlap, even if it was only a brief one.

He will have no doubt been made aware of how the Frenchman was doing at his former club when he spoke with his friends from Spain.

Taking to Twitter, Ozil, who was voted as both Arsenal’s player of the month for December and the PFA’s, said

Zidane himself said about his targets after it was revealed he would be replacing Benitez “I have clear targets and I’m going to do everything I can to reach those targets.

“Good football has always been important at this place and I am going to continue that. It has to be offensive football, balanced, and nothing else.

“To win is essential at this club. The target always is to win the Champions League and I will try to make that possible.”

Ozil’s form this season has seen him linked with a return to Real Madrid, however that seems to be no more than paper speculation with no substance to it whatsoever.

In fact, the German appears to be enjoying his football more now than at any other time in his career, as evidenced by his goals and assists this season which you can relive in the video:
