The work permit and visa are in place and Nigeria’s u17 captain, Kelechi Nwakali, is on his way to Arsenal – confirmed by the player himself.

Speaking to the Nigerian Tribune, Nwakali said “I am going to Arsenal to work and try to be the best I can. With God anything is possible, to work hard to justify my claim for first team football.”

He also told the site in an exclusive that it was a ‘dream come true’ to sign for Arsenal and to have the opportunity to work for a ‘great manager’ like Arsene Wenger.

Arsenal are believed to be sealing a £4m deal for both Nwakali and Samuel Chukwueze, 16, after they came to an agreement with the players’ academy in their home country, and Wenger confirmed both deals are on track when he held his pre-Burnley press conference.

Nwakali captained his country to u17 World Cup glory in Chile and has been scouted by many of the top clubs.

Named player of the tournament, Nwakali was believed to be flying to London on Thursday to complete his move to Arsenal where he will sign a four-year deal after completing a medical.

He is 17 and earlier this week his brother also confirmed that the player was Arsenal-bound.

Nwakali is believed to want the no. 25 shirt, worn by his hero, Kanu.
