In a disappointing move, Arsenal Ladies have let defensive midfielder/centre back Jade Bailey go to reinforce FA WSL 2015 Champions and local rivals Chelsea Ladies.

Jade Bailey has been at the club since her centre of excellence days and it is a shame to see a home grown player, who has been with the club for so many years, depart.

There is no doubt that it is a knock-on effect of Fara Williams’ arrival as there would have been three players competing for one spot in the team: Williams, Janssen and Bailey.

Had Jade been third choice in the pecking order, it makes sense for her to move on as her playing time would certainly have been extremely limited. You do wonder if the club was disappointed in the way she has been developing in the last couple of seasons. Otherwise it would not make sense to let her go.

We must hope that Fara Williams will quickly make a positive contribution to the team in the 2016 season or that Dominique Janssen will carry on her excellent form from last season.

In the meantime, that transfer is now sending a clear message that the club is happy to sell players that came through the age groups and youth teams, the same way it has done through the years.

A disappointing move as it looked like Pedro Losa was ready to give a chance to the youngsters as seen in the Conti Cup group stage and certain League games.

Carla Humphrey and Leah Williamson would be the next players at risk if the club starts to deem youngsters surplus to requirement.

Hopefully, it will be a one-off case but, trading a home grown 20-year-old with potential for a 32-year-old veteran is certainly an interesting move and must pay-off quickly.
