Arsene Wenger met with the press on Friday and was asked about his latest recruit, Mohamed Elneny, who is in line to make his Arsenal debut against Burnley in the FA Cup this weekend.

Signed during this window, the Egyptian arrived from FC Basel after only three years in Europe.

On the bench for the last few games as he aims to get acclimatised to life in England with Arsenal, Wenger said it was a ‘possibility‘ that he would be involved on Saturday.

He was then asked what he had saw in the player since he arrived at the club.

“He’s naturally a box-to-box player,” Wenger replied, “but a bit more defensive minded than a normal box-to-box player.”[He has a] good technique, good vision, quick decision making, very mobile, very agile.”

As we’ve said all along as Arsenal were linked with every defensive midfielder on the planet, the boss was not actually looking to sign one. What he wanted was an all-round midfielder who was good at the defensive side of the game.

In Elneny, Arsene seems to think he has found him.

Let’s hope so.

Good luck on Saturday Mo!
