Heading into the weekend, Arsenal haven’t lost an FA Cup game since 2013.

Winners in both 2014 and 2015, the Gunners are going for an incredibly rare three-peat this year, but one thing could get in the way. Currently top of the Premier League, Arsène Wenger probably won’t risk the chances of a title just for a cup run.

Not to worry, says Mathieu Flamini, who believes Arsenal have proven they have the quality and commitment to be competitive in both competitions.

“The secret is to have a team with a lot of quality and enough players to compete in the Premier League and the FA Cup. I think Arsenal have that quality here so that’s why we can compete every time in the FA Cup,” the midfielder told Arsenal.com.

“After that, it’s important to be focused because in the FA Cup you either win or you’re out. You have to be focused on the day, concentrate, and that has been working very well for us.”

Though he didn’t feature in the final in the last two years, Flamini has been present for both of the famous days at Wembley. He won the FA Cup in his first spell with the club back in 2005, and was back at Arsenal by the time we won our next major trophy – the very same cup in 2014.

“My favourite is the first one after I came back because the club hadn’t won for so long and I said that I was coming back to sort some unfinished business.

“To win a title after not winning one for so long, and to do it in the year I returned, I was so pleased for everyone.”

With Mikel Arteta and Francis Coquelin out injured, the Frenchman has had a chance to reclaim his place in the team and is expected to start again on Saturday afternoon for the visit of Sunderland.

Can we retain the FA Cup for a third time? It begins now.
