On Wednesday night, Manchester City came up against Everton in the second leg of their League Cup semi-final.

As our main rivals for the title, City will have to play an extra game and have their league fixture against Newcastle United rearranged due to their appearance in the final at Wembley. However, progression came at a cost.

Coming off the bench with City behind on aggregate, Kevin De Bruyne scored a controversial equaliser and assisted Sergio Agüero’s winner before doing some damage to his knee in the final minutes of the game.

It appears that it is not a cruciate ligament injury (Pellegrini said after the match that the club doctor didn’t believe it was that serious) but seems to be the medial ligament instead. Luckily for City, that could mean a swift return.

In the Bundesliga a typical medial ligament injury keeps players out for between one and two months, with the average length before a return being 54 days. Of course there are much longer recovery times (see Klaas Jan Huntelaar’s 151 days out or even Aleksandar Stevanovic’s 205 day recovery) but also players who have returned within a few weeks of getting injured.

With the title race so close, Arsenal will be a little encouraged any time Manchester City’s squad is stretched, especially with the Champions League returning soon. If it can affect their form that’s great for us, but it is never nice to see a professional injured and unable to play. By all accounts, De Bruyne is likely to play again this season and should be available for our trip to the Etihad Stadium in May

Here at Daily Cannon we wish Kevin De Bruyne a speedy recovery!
