After drawing 0-0 away to Stoke, Petr Cech admitted that it was a good point and our performance showed that we can (finally) compete with Stoke.

Arsenal haven’t got the best record at the Britannia Stadium. In fact, I’m pretty sure most Gooners hate that place more than White Hart Lane. The oppressive atmosphere, mixed with the Potters’ ‘robust’ style of play is something we’ve struggling to deal with and therefore, Stoke away is one of those fixtures everybody dreads.

After a frenetic 3-3 draw away to Liverpool midweek, expecting a huge, comprehensive win at such a difficult ground was probably never on the cards. However, despite not exactly playing pretty football, we managed to leave with a clean sheet and a point.

This was partly thanks to Cech pulling off some world class saves, particularly in the second half where he denied Joselu and then Bojan in quick succession.

Speaking post-match, the goalkeeper was pleased with his performance, saying, “I was pleased with my contribution because sometimes it can be a tricky game. You try to keep your composure, in tricky conditions as well. So everything you get you’re trying to make sure you do it perfectly, so that the players in front of you feel confident that they can relax.

“I’m very happy that in the second half I managed to keep everything away.”

The Czech international also believes that we’ve shown we can compete against the Potters on their turf and that we proved that.

“We were coming here and you could hear from everybody that we were going to lose again but we showed everybody that we could compete and obviously in the circumstances we take the point,” he said.

“We move on, particularly after midweek when we were unlucky to concede late goal, so today we take the point and we’re in the position we wanted to be.

“We go to our home game and we are ready to compete again.”

As disappointed as many probably are with dropping two points, we have to keep in mind how poorly we’ve done at the Britannia before and move on.
