Gary Rowett sang Jon Toral’s praises after the midfielder, who’s currently on loan at Birmingham, scored a belter of a goal against Ipswich recently.

The 20-year-old has now scored six goals for his loan team this season and has become a regular starter for the Championship club.

Speaking after Toral delivered his wonder strike in the 3-0 thumping of the Tractor Boys, manager Rowett said, “I know Jon is not our player, but he feels like he is because he’s been here all year.

“He’s a great lad, really humble, he works hard and he’s enjoying his football.
“Ultimately when you see a player of that quality and also that  stature – he’s six feet one, great in the air, strong, has got a great touch and scores goals like that (against Ipswich), I still see a chance for him to potentially play in the Premier League with Arsenal.
“What Jon is good at is that he finds space and knows where the space is and is very clever.
“Against Derby, he was the difference in my opinion, in terms of his counter-attacking.
“He gets us out and up the pitch running forwards with his positional sense.”

Toral is an example of what can happen when a loan spell goes right. He’s gaining tons of experience and has turned into a real asset for the club.

Although he’s only in Birmingham for a season, it’s likely that the progress he’s made there will mean he can return to Arsenal and potentially be a member of the squad, rather than get sent out on another loan deal.

Considering how young he is, it’s exciting to see what he could develop into in the future.
